Another ten pounds bites the dust

So as of my weigh-in this morning, I've lost a total of 32 pounds. I could have the mp3 I promised myself if only I could get it to download from Amazon.

Not even sure what I want for my next ten pounds. Oh, I know. A couple of years ago I preordered a bunch of Austen movies as weight-loss rewards, but I never lost the weight. Never even came close. They've been sitting in a box ever since. So my next reward will be one of those movies.

    Very awesome! Way to go!

What are you doing to ose the weight?

I'm just cutting my calories. Well, there's a little more to it than that. So that's the short explanation. If you're interested in the details, here they are:

It's important to remember that I'm very overweight -- obese, in fact. To maintain myself at my current weight, I need to eat roughly 2260 calories. So by reducing my intake to between 1250 and 1350 calories each day, I'm creating a huge calorie deficit and the pounds are melting away.

I eat very little refined carbs and eat complex carbs instead. So I eat whole grain bread instead of white, I avoid regular pasta (and don't much care for whole grain pasta), and I stay away from really sugary stuff like candy, cake, brownies (all my favorite things). The reason I've become so heavy is that I was totally out of control with sweets. I just couldn't control myself. You would be appalled to know what I'd eat in a typical day. The secret (for me) is that things like white bread will trigger cravings for sweets. But cutting them all out in the beginning (and going thru a withdrawal period), I reached a point where I was no longer craving those foods. I can now occasionally have a treat like a cookie without triggering endless cravings.

Eventually my body is going to become used to the fewer calories and I'll plateau. At that point, I'll have to start exercising to increase my metabolism. I've been trying to get an exercise program going, but I can't seem to find the motivation.

I applaud you for your weight loss and for not opening those former weight loss prizes until you lost the weight. I wouldn't have been able to do that.
