Okay, just to warn you, there's not much in this post to interest you unless you're actually Seth's mommy. Someday I might actually add this stuff to his baby book where it belongs. :)
I wouldn't say he's mastered pronouns, but I've noticed that when I clap my hands and say, "You did it!" he'll respond by clapping his hands and saying, "I did it!"
He's moving into the realm of four-word sentences: "Are you watching me?" Although sometimes it's still "Watching me?" or "You watching me?"
I think he's ahead of the game when it comes to talking and counting (today he told Daddy that he has five toes!), but on the other hand, he shows little interest in colors and shapes. (Yes, he has a favorite color [pink], as evidenced when you give him his choice of objects, but just try getting him to tell you what color something is.) I was inordinately excited last week when he told me the color of one of his foam letters was pink. And after that he began to say that all of his letters are pink. Oh, well. :)
As of last weekend, he has started to name shapes, not just repeat them when we say what they are. He's also started to sort blocks by shape, which is something he was supposed to be able to do months and months ago. (Sorting by color, shape and size were milestones I read about eons ago, it seems.) I still haven't seen him sort anything by color or size, though.
He's starting to have nightmares. Last night was terrible. He slept fitfully from 1 AM to 3:30 AM, waking frequently and having nightmares all the while. First he started talking in his sleep, "No, no, noooooo, no." Later on he bolted out of bed and demanded that I take him to the window. He kept insisting that there were birds outside. And even later (still sleeping) he was rubbing his chest and saying, "Sorry," which you may recall is how he says something hurts. Poor baby.
And tonight, guess what happened. At 8:40 he started saying, "Night, night," which is often just a ploy to get us to give him a pacifier. He normally goes to bed at 9:30 or 10:00. He kept insisting, though, so finally I gave him his pacifier, tucked him in, and said, "Night, night." He said, "Night, night," and I shut the door and walked away. Now, I know you'll never believe this, but Bob and I still put him to sleep each night. One of us lies in the bed with him. I know all the child experts say not to do that, and they all said not to nurse him to sleep or let him fall asleep in my arms when he was a baby, but I figure that in the blink of an eye, he's going to be a teenager, so I'm going to hang on to these little-boy years. But tonight, I wanted to see what would happen, and guess what? He went to sleep. All by himself. Imagine that.

Seth figured out how to open the gate at the top of the basement stairs. We're still going to leave it up. It offers us a precious few seconds to stop him from tumbling down.

Seth's latest thing is that everything has to be put in its proper place. The phone has to sit in its cradle. The gate has to be across the top of the stairs. The door to the basement has to be closed.
If I weren't such a slob, he'd know that his toys go in his toybox, which means he'd be insisting that we put them away. Oh, well.

It's his third haircut in six months!
Here we are this morning with a mop:
Here is after the cut:
This is after the cut AND after the bath to wash out the loose hair. It's not nearly as short as I expected it to be. Maybe next time we'll cut it even shorter.

He's thirteen months old, but I did finally take his one-year photos. Sears portrait studio is waaaaaaaaaaaay better than Wal-Mart.
His Grandma and Grandpa made that rocking horse. His Nana and Papa got him that John Deere tractor for his birthday, which was a John Deere themed party.

Happy first birthday, Seth.
We had sixty-five people over for his party. I must be insane.
You'll notice a predominance of photos of his little cake, which I decorated myself, thank you. I ended up running out of battery. I have to depend on others for more photos.

I have a walker on my hands! Yesterday is the date that will officially go in his baby book as the day he started walking. He's taken a few steps in the past, but yesterday he started walking all around the room. He was so excited! Baby's Daddy and I were excited, too.

Today is my eleventh wedding anniversary. I'd marry him again and again and again.

Last night I could see that Seth was chewing. Uh, oh. I hadn't fed him anything in awhile. I thrust my fingers into his mouth and retrieved a tiny piece of... something. On closer inspection, I saw that it was a piece of a ladybug. Yum.
Baby's Daddy says Seth's first bug was actually a couple of weeks ago. He snatched one up before Baby's Daddy had a chance to stop him. No surprise when you consider how adept this boy is with Cheerios.

A few months ago Seth did his first meme. Now we've redone it because he's getting to be such a big boy and all the answers have changed.
3 Things That Scare Me
1. Snowblower. It's loud.
2. The mini chopper that Mommy uses to make my food. It's loud.
3. Grandma when she tries to imitate a cat. It's loud.
3 People Who Make Me Laugh
1. Grandpa.
2. Mommy.
3. Daddy.
3 Things I Love
1. Curly ribbons.
2. Playing with the keyboard.
3. Practicing standing.
3 Things I Hate
1. The mere thought of falling asleep by myself.
2. The eternal wait for Mommy to get that milk maker out. I can't figure out why it takes so long.
3. Lying down. I can sit up now, and that's exactly what I want to do!
3 Things I Don’t Understand
1. Why it takes Mommy so long to break out the milk maker.
2. Why no one wants to change my diaper anymore.
3. Those funny signals Mommy and Daddy make with their hands. If I want food, I'm going to open my mouth like a baby bird, not make a signal with my hand.
3 Things On My Highchair
1. Big wooden spoon.
2. A little block.
3. Noisy rattle.
3 Things I’m Doing Right Now
1. Sitting up.
2. Standing while being helped with balance.
3. Teething.
3 Things I Want to Do Before I Die
1. No life goals yet.
3 Things I Can Do
1. Laugh and giggle and squeal.
2. Roll from my stomach to my back.
3. Sit up.
3 Things I Can’t Do
1. Roll from my back to my stomach. I don't like being on my stomach, so you can't me roll that way, either.
2. Crawl.
3. Pull myself up to a sitting position.
3 Ways to Describe My Personality
1. Happy.
2. Giggly.
3. Cuddly.
3 Things I Think You Should Listen To
1. Music on TV.
2. Me as I play with the piano Nana and Papa got me for Christmas.
3. Me.
3 Things I Think You Should Never Listen To
1. The snowblower.
2. The mini chopper.
3. Grandma's cat noises.
3 Absolute Favorite Foods
1. Asparagus.
2. Peaches.
3. Mashed potatoes.
3 Things I’d Like to Learn
1. How to get out of my carseat.
2. How to get the milk myself. I'm sure it'd be faster.
3. How to walk. Who cares about crawling?
3 Beverages I Drink Regularly
1. Breastmilk.
2. A little juice sometimes.
3. Water.
3 Shows I Watched as a Kid
1. Anything musical.
2. Anything noisy.

Yes, he has two teeth! Just popped through today. Of course, I defy anyone to get a look at them, let alone take a picture. I haven't even seen the teeth myself, but I can feel them.

Seth got his hair cut Saturday night. The poor boy needed it. I'm kinda wishing Baby's Daddy's family had their own Santi, but in his family it's tradition for dads to cut their boys' hair. In this case, this is the first time Baby's Daddy has ever cut anyone's hair...
The first two photos were taken a couple of days before the big night. That's when I reluctantly decided that the child needed to be able to see without hair hanging in his eyes.
All the other photos are of the big night.
All in all, it didn't turn out too bad. Notice the antique barber chair in photo number 8. It's been in Baby's Daddy's family for years.

Seth has starting reaching for me. It's one of the best feelings in the world when he puts his arms up in the air to say, "Pick me up, Mommy."

I just realized that I made it six months breastfeeding.
I can still remember when I was pregnant, imagining how I was going to breastfeed for a year or more. No pacifiers, no bottles 'til I returned to work. Just me an' my baby. I'd heard that some people had difficulty nursing, but I figured I wouldn't be one of them. I might have problems in the beginning, but I'd get them ironed out and would be effortlessly nursing in no time.
Then the reality of a child latched to my nipples set in. At six weeks, I was in such despair. I didn't know how I was going to survive even three months, let alone an entire year. The pain was so much more than I imagined possible. I couldn't nurse long enough to increase my supply. He was getting one bottle of formula every one to two days. I felt like a miserable failure. (And I wasn't even dealing with anything serious like mastitis!)
But I kept at it, and slowly things began to improve. I worked tirelessly on the latch. We never got it exactly right b/c it always hurt, but it helped to have a decent latch. I took herbs to boost my supply (being fuller made nursing less painful). I alternated sides, nursing on only one side each session. By far, this helped the most. Once he started eating every three hours, it meant that each side would get a six hour break in between nursing sessions.
And now here I am at six months, toting my pump around work, making enough milk to be formula free (yay me!), and knowing I can nurse as long as I like.

Seth is sitting up now. Plus, Santa gave him his wish early, and he got to try pureed bananas last week. He's also had pureed bananas with oat cereal, pureed bananas with rice cereal, and mashed potatoes. He didn't like the mashed potatoes at all, not even when I added a little gravy! It's the least sweet food he's ever had. Maybe if they'd been mashed using breastmilk instead of cow's milk... :)

3 Things That Scare Me
1. Daddy’s sneezes. They’re terrifying loud.
2. Uncle Bryan.
3. Random noises that often aren’t loud at all, so Mommy and Daddy can’t figure out why I’m scared.
3 People Who Make Me Laugh
1. I don’t laugh, yet.
2. But I do smile.
3. And coo.
3 Things I Love
1. My pacifier. I’m really attached to it.
2. My Soothing Motions Glider.
3. Ceiling fans.
3 Things I Hate
1. Having to stop in the middle of a feeding to burp. This really pisses me off.
2. Being alone. It’s not good enough just to hear Mommy or Daddy’s voice. I have to be able to see them.
3. Gas bubbles.
3 Things I Don’t Understand
1. Why Mommy makes me stop in the middle of feeding to burp. Sure, I feel much better after burping, but that is so not the point.
2. What/Who those disembodied voices are when I’m alone.
3. Why people insist on touching my head. I hate it when people touch my head.
3 Things On My Highchair
1. Don’t sit in a highchair yet.
3 Things I’m Doing Right Now
1. Sucking noisily on my hands in pacifierless moments. My hands are lifesavers.
2. Increasing drool production.
3. Occasionally sleeping four, five or six hours in a stretch. I even slept nearly eight hours in a row the other night.
3 Things I Want to Do Before I Die
1. No life goals yet.
3 Things I Can Do
1. Hold my head up as well as a baby twice my age.
2. Suck my thumb.
3. Smile at Mommy and Daddy.
3 Things I Can’t Do
1. Grasp objects. The articles Mommy reads tell her that I’m supposed to be able to do this, but she’s trying to ignore them. She consoles herself by remembering that I can hold my head up really well.
2. Crawl.
3. Sit up.
3 Ways to Describe My Personality
1. Impatient when anything, especially being burped, interferes with eating.
2. Unhappy when my pacifier falls out (until I find my hands).
3. Happier and smiley-er all the time.
3 Things I Think You Should Listen To
1. Everything. It’s all so interesting.
3 Things I Think You Should Never Listen To
1. My daddy’s terrifying sneezes.
2. The disembodied voices when I’m all alone.
3 Absolute Favorite Foods
These are the favorites by default because I've never had anything else.
1. Breastmilk.
2. Formula.
3. Water.
3 Things I’d Like to Learn
1. How to grab those stupid toys Mommy and Daddy hang in front of me.
2. How to burp and eat at the same time.
3. How to sit up by myself.
3 Beverages I Drink Regularly
1. Breastmilk.
2. Formula.
3. I had water a couple of times.
3 Shows I Watched as a Kid
1. Daddy and I watch NASCAR.
2. And Van Helsing.
3. And other movies, too, but I really couldn’t care less.
3 Babies I Tag
1. Kiera
2. Thomas
3. Tommy/Brooklynn
