$514 on lotteries?

According to this CNNMoney.com article, "The average [American] household spends $514 a year on lotteries."
What? $514? That's just an average, mind you, which means lots of households have to be spending lots more in order offset households like mine that spend roughly... hang on, carry the 1... ZERO dollars on lotteries.
I never win, so I quit buying them. And I don't just mean the 30 million to 1 odds. I never win even when it's 5 to 1 odds and I buy 6 tickets.
I NEVER buy lotto tickets either. I can think of a million other things I want to spend my money on. :)
I don't think hubby spends that much but he does play from time to time.
We play when the jackpot is like 3 trillion dollars.
We always make a list of all the things we are going to buy when (not if) we win...but after the lottery numbers are announced we are always bitterly disappointed (and shocked!) that we are not The Winners. :(
That what my brother does too. He once told me all his plans after he won the $168 million powerball. I let his flight of fancy continue since he was planning to give me $2 million.
Really? Is he planning to give me $2 million, too?
