I've been fixated by the horrifying Fritzl case since the news broke. It makes me wonder just how many missing people in the world are actually locked up somewhere.

It is horrible...I can't even thing of the words to express how horrid it is!

You just have to think about what did come out of it. They were found and the guy confessed. Now they can start recovering and healing from this tragedy.

It's so horrible and cruel. I don't think they'll ever recover and heal from the tragedy. They are all anemic, have organ problems, and deficiencies from living underground. So so sad.

It doesn't really look promising, does it? According to this article, the hospital has constructed a dungeonlike "chamber" into which family members can retreat when outside stimuli become overwhelming. "Elisabeth is said to huddle forlornly in it for hours, with Felix wailing at her side." Of course, it's far too soon to expect any type of recovery, but past cases suggest that healing is slow. This article tells of a woman who was locked up in darkness at age 13 by her mentally ill mother for seven years. After a year of therapy, she is "said to be so disturbed that she stands only on one foot for long periods staring at the floor. She often bursts into tears." It's heartbreaking.

That's so awful. I don't know how he could have done something like that and sleep at night for all those years.

Heck, this guy has completely rationalized the whole thing: "I am not a monster."

Unfortunately there are some really sick and twisted people in this world.
